First Round of Firewheel Classic Concludes Amid Weather Swings

(Garland, TX) - The inaugural round of the Firewheel Classic has drawn to a close, marked by a day of unpredictable weather and impressive performances. As the morning wave rolled in, players faced a medley of conditions - from humid spells to bursts of sunshine, fleeting clouds, and gusts of wind.

In the afternoon, the weather shifted towards relentless heat and piercing sunshine, adding an extra challenge for the contenders vying for the top spot. Amidst these meteorological fluctuations, Will Cannon from Birmingham, Alabama, emerged as the standout performer of the day, shooting an outstanding 9 under par. Cannon's stellar performance has catapulted him to the summit of the leaderboard, boasting a formidable 3-stroke lead as the first round concludes.

With his sights set on maintaining his momentum, Cannon is set to tee off tomorrow at 1:20 p.m., eager to extend his lead and solidify his position atop the leaderboard.

In addition to the Firewheel Classic, the day also played host to the CJ CUP Byron Nelson Pre-Qualifier, drawing a field of 75 eager players. With only the top 5 and ties progressing, the stakes were high as competitors vied for a coveted spot in the qualifier.

Following a day of intense competition, Dawson Jones (-6), Michael Slesinski (-6), Jesse Schutte (-4), Ryan Grider (-4), and David Laskin (-4) emerged triumphant, securing their places in the qualifier.

The second round will begin at 7:30AM CT with players looking to get inside the cut line. Players will flip waves and start holes. The cut will be made to the top 50 and ties.
